Grampians magic
>> Destination Grampians, Weekends For Two However spring and summer are particularly spectacular, thanks to an abundant of wildflowers.
Experts are predicting the flowers this year will be exceptional as a result of major bushfires last January. While the fires were initially extremely destructive, fire has always played a major role in the regeneration of the Australian bush and as a result many species of wildflowers are expected to emerge.
For the less energetic the valley is also home to art galleries and working studios and great cafes. Wartook Valley is also close to Zumstein, a scenic picnic area on the MacKenzie River, popular for its wildlife. Finding ingredients for that picnic isn’t a problem. The Grampians is quickly developing a reputation for its local produce, ranging from ewe’s milk, cheese and olives to locally sourced beef and lamb. Then there’s the wine. On the Great Grape Road you’ll find such wineries as Seppelt, Best’s, Mt Langi Ghiran and Montara. What better way to spend a relaxing day than with great wine, food and stunning panoramic views. |
