The highest peak of the Macedon Ranges, Mount Macedon is an extinct volcano possessing immense scenic and natural values and a richly developed English cultural heritage, particularly in terms of its outstanding ornamental gardens and its Victorian homes. Atop Mount Macedon are the rock formation known as the Camel's Hump, several picnic areas, Memorial Cross, Days Picnic Ground, Sanatorium Lake and the Mount Macedon Walking Trail. Also in the area are numerous nurseries, Barringo Wildlife Reserve, Mount Macedon Winery, Hanging Rock Reserve and Hanging Rock Winery. Visitors to Mount Macedon can enjoy fine bed-and-breakfast accommodation.
