Information about Battery Point:
Battery Point is a very elegant 'suburb' close to the centre of Hobart. There is an extraordinary concentration of beautifully preserved nineteenth century houses located at Battery Point. The only way to experience Battery Point is to walk up Kelly's Steps from Salamanca Place and start wandering through the winding streets. Battery Point gets its name from the Mulgrave battery of guns which were placed there in 1818. By 1850 Battery Point had become the marine focal point of the city. A number of the cottages at Battery Point are used as guest houses. They offer unique and historic accommodation.
