Daintree is a tiny, neat and charming settlement at the centre of some of North Queensland's most beautiful tropical rainforest. Behind it the mountains of the McDowell Ranges rise steeply while the Daintree River winds lazily past the town. Daintree has a general store, a number of river and rainforest tour operators and a woodworking shop. The Daintree Rainforest Environmental Centre provides a good introduction for visitors. There are plenty of opportunities to walk in the rainforests, which contain some of the rarest flora and fauna in the world. A range of accommodation is available in the Daintree.
